Reclaimed wood. Rewilding childhood.
Wild child woodcraft
Hi! I’m Michelle and my husband is Jamie. With me being a registered early childhood educator and Jamie being a woodworker, we’ve united our passions to create Wild Child Woodcraft.
Unlike mass-produced items, our commitment to sustainability drives us to source materials thoughtfully, opting for reclaimed or repurposed wood instead of purchasing new. This means more time spent procuring wood, hand-selecting each piece with intention.
Moreover, we take pride in the absence of automated processes. Every piece is crafted lovingly by the two of us, without the aid of a C&C machine. This personal touch ensures that each toy carries an essence as unique as the tree it came from.
Our pricing reflects the hours dedicated to sourcing, dimensioning, designing, cutting, sanding, and the final finishing touches. By paying ourselves a living wage, we honor the craftsmanship that goes into each creation.

Open-ended play materials allow children to make choices, express their creativity and support their independence. Open-ended materials by definition do not have a pre-determined use. A block can be a car, phone, doll’s chair, ice-cream bar or any number of other things in play. It is through these experiences that children are able to learn best.

A little about us
Michelle
Hi! I am a registered early childhood educator inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach currently working at a Reggio inspired Forest School near Ottawa, ON. I have worked with children of all ages and nothing captivates and engages people quite like wooden blocks. These toys and blocks will last and won’t be another thing tossed into the landfill. Jamie has been teaching me to use hand and power tools for the last 4 years and being a maker already, I have loved having a new material to create with.
Jamie
I am a heritage carpentry and joinery trained woodworker. I have a passion for sustainability and think a lot about how we are impacting future generations and the earth itself. Michelle and I have many conversations around supporting our youngest citizens and the importance of instilling sustainable views and values. Teaching children to become critical, creative thinkers is how we affect lasting change in the world. Open ended, wooden toys challenge children to think and create. We love what we do!
